What you Should Know..

General Information

  • Officially Named: Common Wealth of Australia
  • Is a country located in the Australian Continent.
  • Worlds 6th largest country.
  • Neighboring Countries: Indonesia, East Timor, Salomon Islands and New Zealand.
  • Before the British it was inhabited by Indigenous Australians. 
  • In 1770 Australia was claimed by Great Britain.
  • Population Size: 23 Million- Most of the population reside on the eastern states.
Government:
  • It is part of the Commonwealth and consequently has a prime minister. 
  • "It is a constitutional monarchy with federal division of power"
  • Uses a government parliament system with Queen Elizabeth II- Queen of Australia
Life:
  • It is a highly developed country.
  • One of the wealthiest countries: The 12th country with the best economy.
  • Ranks highly in the comparison of international performance: best quality life, education, health, economic freedom and protection of civil rights. 
  • English is the National Language.
  • There is no state religion.
  • Strong in sports. 

Weather:
  • Experiences temperate weather throughout the year but this can vary within location because of the size of the continent.
  • Northern States: Warm Weather
  • Southern States: Cooler winter
  • Very dry continent: Less than 60cm of rain per year. (Depends on location)
  • Seasons are opposite than those in the northern hemisphere- December to February is summer, June to September is winter.
  • In the middle part of the continent weather can be extremely hot.

k- Diagram the distribution of water use in your country: agriculture, residential, and industrial.
